Google App’s New ‘Activity’ Tab Puts Your Search History & Saved Items at Your Fingertips

Big changes are rolling out for the Google Search app on Android! The familiar “Saved” tab at the bottom of the screen is being replaced by a brand new “Activity” tab. This update aims to make it much quicker and easier to access your recent searches and saved content, all in one convenient place.

The key takeaway? Your search history and saved items are now front and center, accessible with a single tap.

What’s New with the Activity Tab?

If you’re using the Google app on Android, you’ll notice a change in the bottom bar. The “Saved” tab is gone, and in its place is “Activity,” located as the last item alongside Home, Search, and Notifications. This isn’t just a name change; the tab itself is structured to provide faster access to the things you look for or want to remember.

The Activity tab is split into three clear sections, making it simple to navigate your past interactions with Google Search.

Inside the Activity Tab: History, Saved, and Collections

Let’s dive into what you’ll find within the new Activity tab:

Your Recent History, Instantly

The first section is History. This shows you your four most recent searches and any websites you’ve opened directly from search results. Each item appears as a card, including the website’s little icon, the search term or page title, and the date/time you accessed it. There’s even a handy menu on each card if you want to Save, Share, or Delete that specific entry.

For a more complete look, tapping the “[x] items” count in the corner quickly takes you to your full search history list. This is a noticeable improvement in convenience compared to the older method of having to go through the account menu to find your search history.

All Your Saved Items in One Place

Next up is Saved items. This section presents all the things you’ve previously saved in the Google app – websites, images, products, places on Google Maps, movies, TV shows, and more – in a scrollable carousel format. It’s essentially the old “All saved items” view, now nestled within the new Activity tab for easy access.

Organize with Collections

Finally, the Collections section displays your organized groups of saved items. These can be the default categories or custom collections you’ve created. It provides a quick way to jump into your curated lists. If you preferred how the old Activity tab was structured, you can still find that page under “Saves & Collections” within your account menu, but the new bottom bar tab is clearly the intended primary access point now.

Who’s Getting This Update?

This new Activity tab is currently rolling out widely to Android users. You should see it appearing if your Google app is updated to version 16.19 or later, including on the stable channel. Keep an eye out for it the next time you open the app!

Another Subtle Change: Daily Listen Card Gets a Makeover

In addition to the big Activity tab change, Google has also quietly tweaked the look of the “Daily Listen” card sometimes found in the carousel on the Home tab. Previously, this card stood out with a solid blue background.

Now, it sports a much softer, faint outline, blending in more visually with the other items in that section. This subtle design change aligns with recent shifts where other shortcuts in the app, like those under the search bar when AI Mode is active, have also become less colorful.

The Google app’s new Activity tab is a user-friendly change that brings your search history and saved content right to your fingertips on the bottom bar. It offers quicker access and a more organized view of your past activity, making the app more convenient for everyday use.
