PUBG Just Gave You the Keys: Create Your Own Game Modes with UGC Alpha

Get ready to see PUBG: Battlegrounds in a whole new light! PUBG is officially launching the first phase of its User-Generated Content (UGC) program, dubbed “UGC Alpha.” This exciting new feature puts powerful creative tools directly into the hands of players, letting you design, build, and host your very own custom game modes and experiences right inside the game.

This isn’t just about playing maps designed by the developers anymore. UGC Alpha is the first step towards transforming PUBG into a platform where player creativity takes center stage, offering a universe of unique game types that go far beyond the standard battle royale match.

What is PUBG UGC Alpha?

UGC stands for User-Generated Content – essentially, stuff made by players. In PUBG’s case, UGC means giving you the power to become a game designer within the game itself. You’ll be able to create custom matches with entirely new rules, unique gameplay logic, and custom-built environments using in-game objects.

UGC Alpha is the very first public test of this ambitious system. Think of it as getting early access to a powerful set of building blocks. While it’s an early version and has some initial limitations (like being PC only at the start), it’s the foundation for what promises to be a huge expansion of what’s possible in PUBG.

What Can You Build?

So, what exactly can you tinker with in this creative sandbox? UGC Alpha gives you control over three main elements to bring your ideas to life:

  • Rulesets: This is where you define the core mechanics of your mode. Set player health, decide allowed weapons, control safe zone behavior (or remove it entirely!), define win conditions, and tweak tons of other game parameters.
  • Devices: These are interactive tools that add logic and dynamism. Use capture devices for objective modes, scoring devices, triggers that react to player actions, and more to create complex interactions and game flows.
  • Objects: These are the physical building blocks of your world. Place structures, obstacles, cover points, ramps, and decorative elements to shape the environment players will fight (or play) in.

Combining these elements lets you craft truly unique experiences. Here are just a few examples of what’s already been built using the system:

Ever Played 3v3v3 Conquest?

Imagine a mode where three teams battle it out to capture and hold specific points on the map, forcing intense, focused skirmishes rather than the spread-out nature of battle royale.

Sniper Team Deathmatch, Anyone?

Fancy testing your pure aim? Create a Team Deathmatch where the only weapon available is a sniper rifle, leading to high-skill, long-range duels.

Or Maybe a Crazy Parkour Challenge?

Leave the guns behind and build elaborate obstacle courses using placed objects, challenging players to jump, climb, and navigate tricky platforms from start to finish.

These are just a few examples, and they’ll even be available as sample modes for you to check out and learn from!

If you’ve ever thought, “PUBG would be amazing with a mode like X,” or “I wish I could just tweak Y in this mode,” UGC Alpha is designed to help you turn those ideas into playable realities.

How to Join the Fun (or Start Building)

The UGC Alpha program will run for three months, from July through September. Access to creating and playing will roll out in phases:

  • In July: The initial ability to create UGC Alpha sessions is being given to key community members like PUBG Partners and esports players. This helps gather valuable early feedback from experienced players and creators. However, the exciting part is that anyone can join and play in these sessions! Look out for custom games hosted by Partners or pros. If a host enables the option, they can even grant creative permissions to other players in their session.
  • In August: The gates open wider! Any player with a BATTLEGROUNDS Plus account will be able to create their own UGC Alpha sessions directly within the Custom Match menu.

To help everyone get started, a UGC Alpha tutorial video will be released in August. This will be your guide to understanding the tools and building your first custom experiences. Watching streams or videos from the initial creators in July is also a great way to get inspired!

Why an Alpha Version Now?

Releasing UGC as an “Alpha” version means it’s not yet the finished product. There are limitations, and the system will evolve based on player feedback. PUBG is choosing this approach because the goal is to build the future of UGC together with the community.

Getting these tools into players’ hands early allows the developers to see how you use them, what you want to create, what works well, and what needs improvement. Your participation and feedback during this Alpha period are incredibly important and will directly influence the development of the UGC system moving forward. It’s a chance to be part of shaping a major new direction for PUBG.

UGC Alpha is just the beginning of a much larger vision for player-created content in PUBG. It’s a bold step towards giving players the power to build the game experiences they want to see. Jump in, explore what others have built, try your hand at creating something unique, and share your thoughts – your feedback will help define the future of PUBG’s creative landscape.
