Unexpected Tuning Fun Returns to Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races This Week

Get ready for a unique twist in Gran Turismo 7’s online racing scene! This week’s Daily Races update brings a surprising return of tuning options, challenging players to get creative, especially with a quirky new addition to the car list. Here’s a quick breakdown of what’s new:

  • Race A: Tune the tiny Suzuki Carry on the tricky Tokyo Expressway.
  • Race B: Standard Gr.4 action at Big Willow.
  • Race C: Tactical Gr.3 battle at Suzuka with mandatory pit stops and tire changes.

Let’s dive into the details of each event.

Race A: Tiny Truck, Big Tuning Potential

Headlining this week’s events is a race that puts a smile on your face, featuring the recently added Suzuki Carry mini-truck. But the real surprise? You can tune it!

This isn’t a free-for-all, though. You’re limited to Comfort Medium tires and a 350 Performance Point (PP) cap. The main restriction is you can’t use the wide-body versions of the Carry – sorry, no mini racing truck this time! However, the noodle truck and box van variants are fair game. Aside from nitrous (still banned), almost everything else in the Tuning Shop and GT Auto is available for tweaking. How will you build your ultimate 350PP delivery machine?

This race is purely for fun and sportsmanship; there are no Driver Rating (DR) updates. However, your Sportsmanship Rating (SR) can change. With five laps around the narrow, wall-lined Tokyo Expressway Central Clockwise, keeping your SR intact might be a challenge!

Race B: Gr.4 Showdown at Big Willow

Race B takes things back to a more traditional format with Gr.4 cars battling it out over seven laps at the flowing Big Willow circuit in Willow Springs.

This is a straightforward, open category race. Pick your favorite Gr.4 car – though you might notice a lot of Alfa Romeo 4Cs at the front! It’s a sprint race on Racing Hard tires. Big Willow has plenty of runoff areas if things go wrong, but watch out for drivers who don’t like wheel-to-wheel action; contact can easily send you spinning.

Race C: Strategy is Key at Suzuka

The third race of the week is a tactical affair featuring Gr.3 cars over ten laps of the iconic Suzuka Circuit.

This race throws in a few rules to keep you on your toes. You have to use both Racing Hard and Racing Soft tires at some point during the race, making at least one pass of the start/finish line on each type. Fail to do this, and you’ll get a hefty one-minute penalty after the race.

Additionally, a mandatory pit stop is required. While you’ll naturally pit to swap tires, you must enter the pit lane at least once. Not pitting at all also earns a minute’s penalty. Be extra careful entering and exiting the pits; crossing the solid white line will give you a three-second on-track penalty.

You can pit whenever you like between the end of lap one and the start of lap ten. Tire wear is set to 5x, so your soft tires will degrade quickly, though even worn softs might be faster than fresh hards. Fuel consumption is a lower 3x multiplier, so fuel strategy won’t be as critical as tire management.

What Are GT7 Daily Races?

For those new to online racing in Gran Turismo 7, Daily Races are the main ranked online multiplayer events. Your performance here affects your Driver Rating (DR), which reflects your speed, and your Sportsmanship Rating (SR), which tracks how cleanly you race. These ratings determine your online rank and even your eligibility for the game’s official esports series.

To jump into the Daily Races, you first need to unlock Sport Mode. You can do this by completing Menu Book 9 (“Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade”) in the single-player GT Cafe area. Remember, you’ll also need an active PlayStation Plus subscription to play online.

The Daily Races refresh every Monday, so this set of events should be available until Monday, June 2.

Whether you’re tuning a micro-truck, battling in Gr.4, or strategizing in Gr.3, this week offers a fun mix of challenges in Gran Turismo 7.
